The HIV/ AIDS Pandemic is
the greatest widow and orphan maker that history has ever
recorded. It is estimated that in South Africa half of
the 15 year old will die of HIV/AIDS in the next 5 –7
years.
The UN and the WHO have
predicted that by the year 2010 there will be over 40
million children orphaned by AIDS in sub Saharan Africa.
In Lusaka there are
overwhelming numbers of street kids some of whom are
orphaned by AIDS. The stigma of street beggars most of
whom are teenagers and younger keeps escalating and the
world is watching this culture of poverty suffering and
death descending on Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa in
particular.
You are either infected or
affected; there is no one who is neutral. What is the
church going to do about this?
“Every church has to be a
mother Teresa,” Rev Jim Cantelon,
“If the that little
Albanian
nun could impact the world out of Calcutta the way she
did, ministering to the dying, what can … Churches do
with this death culture that is descending on your land.”
In the light of church’s response to the advent of this
scourge Northmead Assembly produces this radio program
Choosing Hope, to reach families and individuals in a
desired bid to keep hope alive. Jesus is the answer.
Recently the program discussed the
responsibility of parents to talk to their families on
issues of sex and
AIDS.
We believe that
transparency is a vital emissary in the war against
HIV/AIDS. To talk and talk openly about HIV and AIDS can
help in protecting children and forearming.
Abstinence is the core of
our advocacy. The world must know that that sexual purity
guarantees you freedom from being infected. The
Condomisation that has taken toll in many conferences and
commercial adverts only degrade the moral uprightness of
any society. After all condoms don’t protect you from get
the virus. It has numerous faults.
Our radio program visits
various arenas of HIV/AIDS and aims at counseling and
strengthening the community that tunes in to be firm
against the spread of the deadly disease.
