BISHOP JOSHUA H.K. BANDA
Bishop Joshua H.K. Banda
is the Senior Pastor of Northmead Assembly of God Church,
a thriving and vibrant mission-minded Church of 2000
members located in the Northmead Suburb of the city of
Lusaka in Zambia. Prior to assuming this pastorate in
1995, he was the Principal of Trans-Africa theological
College (TTC) in Kitwe for five years, of which he was
later appointed Chairperson of the Board of Governors
until 2003. Bishop Banda, who until March 2007 was
Secretary for the Southern Africa Assemblies of God
Association (SAAGA).

is
also the Deputy Chief Bishop of the Pentecostal
Assemblies of God – Zambia, a growing fellowship of over
1200 churches nation-wide. At age 14, he responded
to the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and went into
full-time service for God at 18. Now 44 years old and in
his 25th year of Christian ministry, Bishop Banda has
travelled widely in Africa and abroad, preaching and
teaching in notable interdenominational settings,
universities, colleges and international conferences.
He currently presents the gospel on The Liberating
Truth, a weekly Television production of Northmead
Assembly, on Zambian National TV (ZNBC) reaching an
audience of approximately 5 million people in both urban
and rural Zambia. The programme also airs twice weekly on
channel Swazi, a private Satellite channel based in
Mbabane, Swaziland and broadcasting to all of
Africa, all of Europe and Saudi Arabia.
The Bishop has become a notable and influential voice on
national issues in Zambia and is a highly sought after
international conference speaker. Distinctly evident
also, is his passion for a holistic gospel approach,
which has seen him catalyze key national Church responses
to social issues including HIV/AIDS, relief work, the
rehabilitation of commercial sex workers, and the rescue
of street children into safe homes. This latter effort
resulted in the founding of the Lazarus Project
(1999), an outreach and rehabilitation centre for street
children, which is co-administered by his Wife, Gladys.

To
HIV/AIDS
(ECRT)
a registered Trust leading the Christian response against
HIV/AIDS and oversees the Circle of Hope
Clinic, offering free anti-retroviral treatment to
over 800 AIDS patients monthly. He serves on several
Boards of significant organisations including World
Vision Zambia and the National AIDS Council. He has been
a member of the Technical Advisory Group of Family Health
International in the USA. Bishop Banda has studied
at Trans-Africa Theological College (Kitwe, Zambia),
Northwest University (Kirkland, USA), Cape Theological
Seminary (Cape Town, RSA) and is presently undertaking
research focusing on the efficacy of abstinence and
marital faithfulness in the prevention of HIV/AIDS. This
study is aimed towards a PhD at the Oxford Centre for
Mission Studies in Oxford, U.K. He is married to
Gladys (for 20 years now) and they have four
children: Linda (17), Ryan (14), Nathan (11) and
Lisa (4).
